I was hospitalized and ended up paying more than 150,000 yen in medical care costs. I heard I'm eligible to claim high-cost medical expenses. How do I do that?

Any medical care costs you paid yourself in excess of your Cost-Sharing Maximum Amount  are eligible for reimbursement by the Health Insurance Association. No action is needed to claim these benefits. They are calculated automatically based on the medical cost details (rezept) sent from the medical care institution to the Health Insurance Association and paid for amounts beyond your copayment of 25,000 yen (the total sum of additional benefits and benefits for high-cost medical expenses). Payment will occur three months after the month in which you received the treatment.
