Am I required to remit payment of my insurance premiums every month? Can I get a discount by paying in advance?

You can pay your premiums in advance for one half-year (April through September or October through March) or one full year (April through March). If paying monthly, please use direct debit. (Direct debit is not available for payment of premiums in advance.)

A prepayment discount applies, with total annual premiums reduced from 345,600 yen to 338,356 yen if prepaid for a full-year period or to 341,674 yen if prepaid for two half-year periods (annual health insurance premiums for April 2016 through March 2017).
